Jesus, in Matthew 28:19, challenges His disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." Baptism is an outward sign of an inward faith. It is not  a means of salvation, but as a visible sign of our faith in God's finished work on the cross for us.
